Hamptons billionaires pitch in for benefit with ‘Grease’ theme

So who’s going to dress up like Danny Zuko? A gathering of Hamptons high-flying billionaires — including David and Julia Koch, Apollo’s Leon Black and wife Debra, and Mike and Lori Milken — are on the host committee for a benefit with a “Grease” theme, the “Rydell High School Sock Hop” on Saturday.

The East Hampton Studio bash to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation is inspired by the iconic 1978 musical film and features decor by Colin Cowie, plus “1950s diner food with a twist” by chef David Burke.

Attire for the event will be “jukebox chic.” (And we’re crossing our fingers that the Koches will recreate John Travolta’s and Olivia Newton-John’s “You’re the One That I

Julia and David Koch

A source said of the event, for which tickets range from $500 to a “Top Cat” of $5,000: “There will be classic cars outside as guests arrive. A cocktail area will look like a football field — with a school bus and cheerleaders, and the main room will look like the school gymnasium [done up] for a sock hop.”

Later, the dessert area will re-create a drive-in movie theater with more classic cars.

Entertainment’s being provided by pop duo Hall and Oates — not exactly ’50s, but their song “Rich Girl” would go well with the crowd’s vibe. Plus, Daryl Hall can probably do a hell of a cover of “Summer Nights.”

Other event hosts (and possible members of the T-Birds gang and the Pink Ladies) include Richard and Karen LeFrak, Dick Merkin as well as Glenn and Jennifer Myles, David and Sybil Yurman and Bonnie Pfeifer Evans. But with this well-heeled crowd, don’t expect to see any “Beauty School Dropouts.”

Meanwhile, the same night, another host of big names will gather and perform at the Apollo in the Hamptons event over at Ronald Perleman’s famed East Hampton estate, the Creeks.

Lenny Kravitz will take the stage along with Pharrell Williams, the Roots, Darlene Love and a few other surprise guests.

Glenn Myles, founder of First Wall Street Capital

Asked what motivates him to work tirelessly on various charities, he says, “I decided that if money were only going to change my life slightly, I'd rather be on the giving side. So, I've devoted the rest of my life to using my creative skills to provide sources of capital for entrepreneurs, and for my partners.”

For this event, he is supporting Michael Milken’sProstate Cancer Foundation, the world’s largest source of funds for prostate cancer research. Milken is a prostate cancer survivor himself, and is known for his efforts to accelerate the pace of research into life-threatening diseases.

Glenn and his wife Jennifer will be joined in the event by elite members of society, including: Michael Milkenand his wife Lori, private equity champion Leon Black and his wife Debra, oil magnate David Koch and his wife Julia, real estate tycoon Richard LeFrak and his wife Karen. Also expected to attend this exclusive event are the finance industry’s movers and shakers including healthcare leader Richard Merkin and crowdfunding and hedge fund syndication pioneer Bruce Lipnick - a close friend of Glenn Myles for the last 20+ years.

The event’s organizing committee promises an unforgettable night of special surprises with a throwback to the 1950s as inspired by the blockbuster musical film “Grease.” Its members include: Bob & Deanna Adler, Tim Chirotti, Jim Coleman, Don & Joan Diamond, Bonnie Pfeifer Evans, Jeff & Mei Sze Greene, David Hamamoto, Jon Kalikow, Richard Kalikow, Bill & Suzanne Marcus, Javier Naselli, Joel Pashcow, Bob & Lauren Roberts, Todd Rome, Joseph Rosenbaum, Daniel & Sheila Rosenblum, Jack Takacs, David Yurman and Bruce Lipnick.

America’s Richest Fight Prostate Cancer

August 3, 2013 5:49 pm0 commentsViews: 5

By David Drake

Each day, more than 500 men in America are diagnosed with prostate  cancer.    This is according to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the leading philanthropic organization committed to curing prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. The American Cancer Society estimates that this year alone, 240,000 new cases will be diagnosed and 30,000 men will die.

These alarming statistics have led America’s richest to band together in the fight against prostate cancer.  On the initiative of philanthropist and Wall Street tycoon Glenn Myles, a fundraising event to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) will be held on August 24, 2013.  This invitational event, dubbed  “A Blast From the Past,”  is one of the highlights of the Charles Evans PCF Pro-Am Tournament that will be held in The Hamptons August 23-25, 2013.

Glenn Myles is the founder of First Wall Street Capital, an independent global investment firm located in New York City.  He says, “I’ve devoted the rest of my life to using my creative skills to provide sources of capital for entrepreneurs, and for my partners…I recently faced cancer and passionately needed to get proactive with my work with Michael Milken and his amazing work.”

For this event, he is supporting his partner Michael Milken’s foundation, the Prostate Cancer Foundation, which is the world’s largest source of funds for prostate cancer research.  Milken, himself a prostate cancer survivor, is known for his efforts to accelerate the pace of research on this life-threatening disease.

Glenn and his wife Jennifer will be joined at the event by an elite society that includes  Michael Milken and his wife Lori, private equity champion Leon Black and his wife Debra, oil magnate David Koch and his wife Julia, and real estate mogul Richard LeFrak and his wife Karen.  Also expected to attend this exclusive event are such finance industry movers and shakers as health care leader Richard Merkin and crowdfunding and hedge fund syndication pioneer Bruce Lipnick – a close friend of Glenn Myles for the last 20+ years.

The event’s theme is inspired by the blockbuster musical film “Grease” and will feature iconic  images and performances from the 1950’s era promising an unforgettable event full of fun and surprises.  Members of its organizing committee include: Bob and Deanna Adler, Tim Chirotti, Jim Coleman, Don and Joan Diamond, Bonnie Pfeifer Evans, Jeff and Mei Sze Greene, David Hamamoto, Jon Kalikow, Richard Kalikow, Bill and Suzanne Marcus, Javier Naselli, Joel Pashcow, Bob and Lauren Roberts, Todd Rome, Joseph Rosenbaum, Daniel and Sheila Rosenblum, Jack Takacs, David Yurman and Bruce Lipnick.

The event is estimated to raise over $1 million as it has already brought in $150,000 in pledges from $15,000 donation per table even before complete details about the event have been released. VIP dinner or breakfast with Myles and Milken are being auctioned for a starting bid of $10,000 and they are selling out quickly. Young entrepreneurs see this as a great opportunity to reach out to these business magnates to learn more about finance and corporate strategies, among other things,  and a 1-hour mentoring session with them would normally  fetch over $25,000 in other charity events.

Asked what motivates him to work so tirelessly on various charities, Glenn Myles answers, “I decided that if money were only going to change my life slightly, I’d rather be on the giving side.”

It is this belief that has fueled his work in helping others transform their lives.
